40th Anniversary Celebration
The Fort Ransom Sodbuster’s Wagon Train was organized to celebrate Fort Ransom Sodbuster Show’s 40th Anniversary. On Wednesday, Sept. 4, teamsters and riders gathered at the Owego Schoolhouse to prepare for the 2-day, 36-mile wagon train. The wagon train consisted of 12 wagons and 13 horseback riders.
Thursday morning the wagon train left Owego Schoolhouse and headed west to Anselm for the lunch stop, which was the halfway point. Late Thursday afternoon the wagon train pulled into Kevin Schultz’s pasture south of Buttzville for the layover. Everyone enjoyed an evening meal and shared stories while the horses rested after a long day. Friday morning everyone was eager to start out for the last leg of the venture to Fort Ransom State Park. The wagon train snaked through the valley and arrived at the park about 5 p.m.
Saturday morning the show started off with a parade of the wagon train through the Sunne Farm at Fort Ransom State Park led by area rodeo royalty.
